Athens.
Finally for this first day at WebSci '09, we move to the poster session, which includes our poster on the Australian political blogosphere mapping project; the A1 poster itself is available here, and there's also a brief article to provide further background detail. From the post slideshow that's playing at the moment, there's quite a bit of really interesting stuff here - and all of the posters are also available online.
The session is introduced by Jim Hendler, who notes the substantial number (168) and variety of posters submitted to this conference, with about 75 posters accepted for presentation. This represents the growth and variety of Web science-type approaches, and today's announcement that the Obama administration will use Semantic Web technologies to track uptake of the stimulus package further documents the mainstreaming of such ideas and technologies. This is also shown by the take-up of Web science ideas at a curriculum level both in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the US, UK, and elsewhere.
So, with that, we're off to the poster session!
Update: That went well - some very interesting conversations which I hope to follow up on later. Many thanks to all who came along...
