M/C Turns Ten Today!

M/C Journal |

Give Me M/C!Some ten and a half years ago, David Marshall - then lecturing in the English Department at the University of Queensland - had an idea. Academics around Australia, and around the world, were still coming to terms with this new-fangled thing, the Web, but publishing academic work was more often than not still linked to the slow processes of print publishing - so, David suggested, wouldn't it be great to set up a new, purely online journal that would combine rigorous academic peer review with the speed and reach that only Web-based publishing could provide. "Why not organise each issue around a one-word theme?", he asked.

We're getting ever closer to the tenth anniversary of M/C Journal's launch in July 1998. To celebrate, the University of Queensland's Peta Mitchell and M/C founder P. M/C Journal 'home' Issue Launched

M/C Journal |

I'm very pleased to announce the launch of issue 10.4 of M/C Journal. Interestingly, one of our articles has already been noted in the mainstream press (even though they got the name of the journal somewhat wrong...). Speaking as a migrant to Australia, I'm not sure I agree with Gerard Henderson's views about the proposed citizenship test - that is to say, I'm pretty sure I don't -, but good to see that M/C Journal has been able to make a contribution to this debate.

'complex' - Edited by Jayde Cahir and Sarah James

Sydney's City Rail has recently launched an advertising campaign with the slogan of "untangling our complex rail network". City Rail position Sydney's rail network as a complex system. Describing something as 'complex' can be the answer to many questions. Rather than positioning 'complex' as the end result we would like to explore it as a starting point. What is complex? How is it complex? Why is it complex?

I'm happy to announce the launch of issue 10.2 of M/C Journal (not 10.1, as some of my announcement emails earlier today had it, unfortunately) - as some early readers have commented already, this is a particularly strong issue; congratulations to the editors and authors involved.

M/C Journal |

We've just published issue 9.6 of M/C Journal (December 2006)... This means that in 2007, M/C enters its tenth volume - wow. I don't think any one of us would have foreseen such longevity when we founded the journal. Anyway, here it is - and a great selection of interesting topics lined up for 2007 as well!

M/C Journal 'collaborate' Issue Now Available

M/C Journal |

Last week I had the great pleasure to publish the 'collaborate' issue of M/C Journal, which I edited with my great friend and colleague Donna Lee Brien from the University of New England. I'm very happy with how it's turned out, with a very interesting mix of general theory and practitioner reports from academia, arts, and the media, and a great feature article by Suw Charman from the Open Rights Group. Here's the announcement:
