The Anatomy of Virality: How COVID-19 Conspiracy Theories Spread across Social and Mainstream Media from Axel Bruns

Abstract

The Empowering The Truth Summit officially kicks off with a keynote talk on the anatomy of disinformation. It will be delivered by Professor Axel Bruns, an expert in digital media and disinformation. He is an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow and professor in the Digital Media Research Centre at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, and a chief investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society.

Bruns will explore the anatomy of virality, examining how disinformation spreads and how we can use this knowledge to make truth go viral. Drawing on his extensive research and experience, Bruns will provide valuable insights into how we can navigate the complex world of digital media to promote accurate and truthful information. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of the foremost experts in the field and gain a deeper understanding of the power of viral content.

The Empowering the Truth Summit is part of Disarming Disinformation, run by ICFJ with lead funding from the Scripps Howard Foundation, an affiliate organization of the Scripps Howard Fund, which supports The E.W. Scripps Company’s charitable efforts. The three-year project will empower journalists and journalism students to fight disinformation.
