Data lost

Backing up from an equally annoying and upsetting week - I lost a harddrive just after Easter. Luckily I had backed up most of my work-related files just before, but much other data seems gone, including all of my emails, my calendar, and my address book. You don't realise how much you depend on Outlook until it's gone... Data recovery services charge through the nose and I can't justify spending a cool $6000 for a 70% chance of getting my data back.

On the upside, it's given me an opportunity to upgrade to Windows XP. Also, luckily we were able to get the new M/C issue (co-edited with Alex Burns, who is not me) out just before the drive broke. There are some problems with parts of the site at the moment, but the issue is online at http://journal.media-culture.org.au/.

Further, I've also published a review of the new King Crimson album at M/C Reviews. This is the best Crimso studio release for quite a while, and I'm looking forward to the live recordings from the current tour which will no doubt appear in the Collectors' Club sooner or later. I'm currently working on a review of the Van der Graaf Generator DVD (featuring a 1971 Belgian TV appearance) which I'd mentioned here previously - should go online as soon as I can get home to check some facts.

NP: La Maschera di Cera - lovely Italian Prog from Mellow Records.
